FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick has always said the biggest jump players make is from Year 1 to Year 2, and one of the players who is in a position to take that leap is running back Sony Michel.

Michel finished last season totaling 1,267 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns, including six in the playoffs.

Speaking Tuesday at Gillette Stadium, Rex Burkhead was asked about the Georgia product and he had a lot of praise for him

“He’s just a guy who doesn’t say much. He comes in every single day ready to work and understanding that the sky’s the limit for him," he said. "He had a great year last year, and [I’m] excited to see what he can keep doing.”

The Patriots backfield is pretty much the same as last year except for the addition of Brandon Bolden and rookie Damien Harris. As of now, it will be Michel, Burkhead, James White, Harris and Bolden.

One of the things to look for from Michel is how much quicker he'll likely pick things up.

“I think that’s probably the biggest thing you’ll see from a lot of guys Year 1 to Year 2," Burkhead said. "Even with me in this system, I feel like I started to pick up things quicker.”

It will be interesting to see if catching passes out of the backfield will be one of those things, as Michel never was asked to do much of it last season. Part of that could have been missing so much time in training camp and not developing the chemistry needed with Tom Brady.

After missing the entire preseason and Week 1 last year, all things are pointing to Michel being even better this season.
