Now we know why the Packers waived Martellus Bennett.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Packers released Bennett on Wednesday because of a torn rotator cuff. The report adds he may try and play through it. If not, the Patriots could place him on injured reserve. Since they are only paying him just over $400,000 the rest of the season, there was little risk in bringing him in. It is worth noting Bennett played through some injuries last season, so he's done it before.

Bennett missed the last game with the Packers and was already ruled out for this week. In seven games this season, he has 24 catches for 233 yards.

The news obviously changes a lot of expectations for Bennett with the Patriots and with this news if he gives them anything at all this year it will be a bonus. Still, the move to claim him was a no-brainer since there was little risk involved.

The tight end had a locker set up Friday morning in the Patriots locker room.
