When it comes to the Patriots and their wide receivers, Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu get the most attention as the veterans and then N'Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers are the players many are looking to for a Year 2 jump.

People aren't talking much about their free agent signings, but NBC Sports' Chris Simms believes Marqise Lee and Damiere Byrd could help a great deal.

“They got two under-the-radar (players), who I thought were good free agent signings," he said on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Tuesday. "One in Marqise Lee and the other one is Damiere Byrd from Arizona, who is one of those guys I have had my eye on ever since he came out of college. I think he is the perfect New England guy — understated, nobody knows about him. He didn’t get featured in Arizona.

"Maybe the offense can be better than what it was last year, especially with some of those young receivers being in Year 2. I would hope they would be better, certainly better than what they were for (Tom) Brady and the Pats last year.”

Lee has battled injuries the last several years, but totaled 851 receiving yards in 2016 and 702 in 2017. Meanwhile, Byrd had 32 receptions for 359 yards last year in his first year with the Cardinals. It would be a huge boost to the passing game if one of or both of these players could emerge as a dependable No. 3-4 option.

As of now, the Patriots have a wide receivers depth chart of Edelman, Sanu, Harry, Meyers, Lee, Byrd, Quincy Adeboyejo, Will Hastings, Isaiah Zuber, Gunner Olszewski, Devin Ross, Sean Riley and Jeff Thomas.
