One of the most intriguing players in the entire NFL draft is Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson. It's a big mystery where he gets selected, as some view him as a potential first-round pick, while others don't.

As it relates to the Patriots, it was reported last week they were the team showing the most interest in him and then this week NFL Media draft expert Mike Mayock has connected the Patriots to the quarterback.

In a Q&A with The Athletic's Richard Deitsch, Mayock was asked about Jackson and the number of potential first-round QBs, and in his answer he named several teams at the end of the first round, including the Patriots, as being potential fits for Jackson.

"I think the most spectacular athlete in this draft is Lamar Jackson," he said. "I think he is also the biggest wild card. I think some team in the first round is going to look at him and say look what Bill O’Brien did a year ago with Deshaun Watson and let him [Jackson] do what he does well. Somebody philosophically is going to say we are going to do it this way, we will make this kid comfortable. I think some of the teams at the bottom of the first round with older quarterbacks — the Chargers, the Patriots, the Saints, even Buffalo — I think somebody is going to make a commitment to this kid.

"They will say we know you are way behind in the pass game but we believe in you long-term. I  think [Wyoming’s] Josh Allen and [USC’s] Sam Darnold are going to go early. There’s [Oklahoma’s] Baker Mayfield and [UCLA’s] Josh Rosen. I think they will go in the first round. Lamar Jackson is the wildcard and I think if a sixth one snuck in at the end of the first round it would be [Oklahoma State’s] Mason Rudolph."

The Patriots have selections Nos. 23 and 31 in the first round and then two second-round picks.
