Well, that was a bit of a surprise.

Listen to your team news NOW.

According to multiple reports, the Giants are finalizing a deal to have former Patriots wide receivers/special teams coach Joe Judge as their next head coach. This was Judge's first year as wide receivers coach, as prior to this year he had just worked with the special teams.

The Giants chose Judge over Josh McDaniels, who was scheduled to interview later in the week. McDaniels' only option left is Cleveland.

Judge had been with the Patriots since 2012. It seems likely assistant Cameron Achord will be promoted to special teams coach and the Patriots will need to find a new wide receivers coach.

It will be interesting to see how Judge works out in New York. He has a very intense personality and could potentially try and be like Bill Belichick and we've seen how that has worked out for others in the past.

New York went 4-12 last season.
