Amid the virtual offseason program, football has taken a backseat for the Patriots recently as the team has taken time to discuss current events.

According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, the Patriots have had open conversations about recent events and have sacrificed football in order to do so.

The report adds Bill Belichick was part of the discussion and one player said it wouldn't have been possible without his leadership. Additionally, Giardi said black players discussed what they have been through during their lifetimes and it was “eye-opening” and “made a great impact."

NFL players are not allowed at facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so everything has been done virtually this spring.

The Patriots' virtual offseason program will last until at least the middle of June.
