The Patriots got Rob Gronkowski back against the Jets on Sunday and now will get another key offensive player back this coming Sunday against the Vikings -- running back Rex Burkhead.

New England activated Burkhead off injured reserve and released offensive lineman Matt Tobin as the corresponding move.

Burkhead was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury following Week 3. He will now join Sony Michel and James White in the backfield. Tobin was a depth piece up front, but with players getting back from injury he's no longer needed.

When healthy, Burkhead is a very dynamic back who can make plays both in the run game and pass game. In 10 games last year he had 64 carries for 264 yards and five touchdowns, while adding 30 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
