Former Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow was back at the school for its spring game over the weekend where he autographed his own Patriots jersey.

Renfrow has been connected to the Patriots for many years now, as many see him as a perfect fit in the New England offense. The wide out himself said similar things when speaking at the NFL combine last month, but it's worth asking, does he really make sense for New England?

The 5-foot-10 receiver finished his four years at Clemson with 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns with his best year coming in 2017 when he caught 60 passes for 602 yards and three touchdowns. Renfrow does most of his work out of the slot and has come up with a number of big catches on third down and late in games. He has a few traits the Patriots look for, but there may be other receivers out there who can be better. After all, those numbers aren't up to par with most other top receivers in the draft considering he had four years at Clemson.

From this viewpoint, the Patriots should not go out of their way to target Renfrow as he's more of a late-round talent and the team frankly needs more talented players than him at the moment. With that being said, if he's still available in one of the last couple rounds and the team has already selected a receiver or two, then he could be worth a selection, but with Braxton Berrios already on the roster, it may not make a lot of sense having essentially two of the same player on the team.

In the end, the hype surrounding Renfrow to the Patriots isn't exactly what it should be.
