FOXBORO -- There was some good news coming out of Patriots practice Monday, as both Marcus Cannon and Sony Michel returned.

The two have missed every session since they both left practice on Aug. 1. This is good news, as it means they are at least in play to see time in Week 1. Cannon's injury was unknown, while Michel reportedly had his knee drained.

Michel and Rex Burkhead did appear to be limited, as they did not participate in the running backs drill the media was permitted to see. Cornerback Duke Dawson departed for the lower fields after stretching, so he doesn't seem close to returning to action.

There were also three new players -- all on offense.

Nos. 19, 27 and 42. No. 19 was a wide receiver and Nos. 27 and 42 were running backs. It seems like these players could just be bodies to play in the fourth and final preseason game as the team doesn't want to have to play players who will see significant time this season.

No word yet on who these three players are, but they should be revealed over the course of the day.

Overall, it was a positive day for the team as getting Cannon and Michel back on the practice field was big.
