The Patriots went all week without filling their open roster spot, but finally did on Saturday.

With offensive linemen Shaq Mason and Brian Schwenke already ruled out, James Ferentz has been promoted from the practice squad. He's been on the Patriots practice squad since last season and is the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.

The 29-year-old has played for a number of teams, including the Broncos and Texans. Ferentz will serve as depth behind Ted Karras, who will start in Mason's place.

Some thought cornerback Duke Dawson would be added off injured reserve, but the team can wait until next week to do that. But, if they don't by next week at this time, he would revert back to injured reserve.

The Patriots will host the Packers Sunday night.
