EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- There will likely be a handful of players who won't play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants simply to rest for the regular season. Others will miss the game due to injury or rehab.

One player expected to miss the contest is tight end Jacob Hollister, per source.

This will be his second straight preseason game missed and it's not known what is keeping him off the field. Despite missing the last two games, it still seems like he will be a big contributor the first few weeks of the season with Julian Edelman missing the first four games. He hasn't missed a single practice this summer.

ESPN's Mike Reiss was first to report the news.

In addition to Hollister, per Reiss, here are other players expected to miss the game: Marcus Cannon, Sony Michel, Luke Bowanko, Ryan Izzo, Harvey Langi, and Rex Burkhead.

After missing over three weeks, Cannon and Michel returned to practice this week, which is a good sign.

Following Thursday, the team will set its 53-man roster by Saturday at 4 p.m. and then begin preparations for Houston in Week 1.
