FOXBORO -- Wednesday was James Harrison's first official day as a member of the Patriots, and although he won't be speaking to the media until Friday, his new teammates did for him.

"He's been doing a lot of great things around the league throughout his whole career," defensive end Trey Flowers said. "I'm looking forward to being on the field with him and making plays, continuing his career."

Added Devin McCourty: "He's a well-put together human being. Some would say scary."

Harrison was released by the Steelers on Saturday and then he signed with the Patriots on Tuesday. The outside linebacker was upset with his lack of playing time this season, as he only played in five games and totaled one sack. He is Pittsburgh's all-time sack leader.

Pittsburgh players ripped Harrison when speaking in the Steelers locker room Wednesday.

"He’s a great player and a great player to have on the team," Rob Gronkowski said on a conference call with the Jets media. "I’m not sure, that’s up to our defensive coordinator to scheme up. I’m on the offensive side of the ball, so I’m just worried about what’s going on on the offense and what I can do to help out."

It would appear Harrison will be active in the regular-season finale against the Jets so the Patriots have an idea of what they have for the postseason.
