Patriots reportedly 'particularly interested' in Demaryius Thomas, Golden Tate, so what could this mean?

As expected, the Patriots are being connected to some big names as the NFL trade deadline approaches.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have had discussions involving wide receivers and are particularly interested in Demaryius Thomas and Golden Tate. This comes following a report on Sunday from FOX's Jay Glazer that the Patriots were interested in adding a premium receiver at the deadline.

Looking at the current Patriots wide receiver depth chart -- Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson -- it doesn't seem like it needs a "premium" receiver and the biggest needs on the roster lie on the defensive side of the ball.

Perhaps these reports are linked to the report of Gordon being late Sunday to the team bus and being disciplined Monday night against the Bills. Maybe leaking this report is a way for Bill Belichick and the Patriots coaching staff to get Gordon's attention that this behavior isn't acceptable and the team could always move on to someone else very quickly.

Certainly this is something to monitor over the next 24 hours, but if the Patriots do indeed make a move at a receiver, that wouldn't be a good sign for Gordon.
