FOXBORO -- New England worked out Obi Melifonwu on Friday, but he wasn't the only one.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the team worked out tight end Ben Koyack and Dexter McCoil in addition to the UConn product.

Koyack was drafted by the Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2015 draft. For his career, he has 24 catches for 199 yards and a touchdown. He was placed on injured reserve at the end of training camp this summer, but then released Sept. 8.

McCoil, 27, has played for a bunch of teams, including in the Canadian Football League after going undrafted following the 2013 NFL draft. Most recently he was on the 49ers' practice squad, but was released Oct. 9.

As always, this is a case of the team doing its due diligence, and in the case of Melifonwu likely seeing how he looks after suffering numerous injuries to start his NFL career.
