Patriots finalize initial roster with only 52 players

The Patriots have set their initial roster with only 52 players (out of a 53), so a lot can change between now and next Sunday against the Texans.

Here it is by position.

Quarterback (2): Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer

Running back (4): James White, Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill, Sony Michel

Wide receiver (4): Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson, Matthew Slater

Tight end (5): Rob Gronkowski, Dwyane Allen, Jacob Hollister, Ryan Izzo, James Develin

Offensive line (7): Trent Brown, Joe Thuney, David Andrews, Shaq Mason, Marcus Cannon, LaAdrian Waddle, Ted Karras

Defensive line (10): Malcom Brown, Danny Shelton, Lawrence Guy, Adrian Clayborn, Adam Butler, Trey Flowers, Deatrich Wise, Derek Rivers, Keionta Davis, Geneo Grissom

Linebacker (6): Dont'a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Elandon Roberts, Ja'Whaun Bentley, Nicholas Grigsby, Brandon King

Cornerback (7): Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Jason McCourty, Jonathan Jones, Keion Crossen, J.C. Jackson, Duke Dawson

Safety (4): Devin McCourty, Duron Harmon, Patrick Chung, Nate Ebner

Specialists (3): Stephen Gostkowski, Ryan Allen, Joe Cardona

In addition, the team placed the following players on injured reserve: 2018 first-round draft pick OL Isaiah Wynn, sixth-round draft picks WR Braxton Berrios and LB Christian Sam and OL Ulrick John. Also, Izzo reportedly will go on injured reserve with the intent of him returning, which is why he's on the roster now.

This means the team likely will have two open roster spots, which could come via trade, waiver claim or free agent signing.
