As always, the Patriots are always making sure they are prepared in case of an emergency and have information on as many players as they can.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the team worked out five players on Friday, including defensive end Will Clarke, quarterback Connor Cook, linebacker Kasim Edebali, wide receiver Devin Ross and tight end Shane Wimann.

Wimann is familiar to New England as he spent some of training camp with the team before being released.

Cook may be the biggest name of the group. The Michigan State product was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 draft by the Raiders, but was released this year after the team traded for AJ McCarron. He signed to the Panthers’ practice squad, but was released last week. Cook actually made his first NFL start in the 2017 wild card game against the Texans.

Edebali, a Boston College product, has bounced around the league after signing with the Saints as a undrafted free agent in 2014. Most recently, he spent the summer with the Bears and was released on cut-down weekend.
