FOXBORO -- The Danny Etling wide receiver experience in New England is over.

Listen to your team news NOW.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Patriots have waived the quarterback turned wide out.

He was drafted in the seventh round last year as a quarterback out of LSU and spent the entire year on the practice squad. After the team selected Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round, Etling transitioned to wide receiver this summer. It didn't go according to plan, as despite working as hard as anyone on the field, staying well after every practice, he just couldn't develop at the new position.

Against the Lions last week, Etling played five snaps.

The move was needed to get tight end Eric Saubert on the roster following a trade with the Falcons Monday.
