Shaq Mason is one of the best right guards in the league, and now he's getting paid like one.

According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, the Patriots and Mason have agreed on a five-year extension worth up to $50 million. He's now one of the top-10 paid guards in the league. Mason was going to be a free agent after this season.

This was a good move by the Patriots to get the deal done now, as he would certainly demand a lot of money once on the open market next offseason.

"Shaq has done a good job for us since the time he got here," Bill Belichick said. "He came from an offense that is quite different from ours [Georgia Tech] and he adapted quickly. He did a really good job learning new techniques. He's an athletic player. Has good strength. Good balance. Good run blocker who can pull run and hit. ... He's done a good job for us."

The core of the offensive line appears to remain in place for the next several seasons.
