There will be a punter competition at Gillette Stadium this summer.

After getting a tryout at rookie minicamp this weekend, the Patriots have signed left-footed punter Corey Bojorquez out of New Mexico. He averaged a school record 47.3 yards per punt as a senior last fall. During his two seasons at New Mexico, he totaled 116 punts for an average of 45.1 yards per punt. He also has holding experience.

Bojorquez will compete with Ryan Allen.

To make room on the roster, the team has released rookie wide receiver Darren Andrews out of UCLA. According to the NFL transaction wire, it was with a non-football injury designation.
