FOXBORO -- Tuesday was the final open practice of the summer for the Patriots at Gillette Stadium, and it was also the slowest.

Listen to your team news NOW.

The Patriots held a walkthrough in advance of two joint practices with the Titans Wednesday and Thursday before Saturday's second preseason game.

The just over an hour session was held in just shorts, jerseys and helmets -- no pads at all.

Absent: N'Keal Harry, Matt LaCosse, Danny Etling (reportedly waived)

Present, but not participating: Demaryius Thomas, Cameron Meredith, Julian Edelman, Yodney Cajuste

Red non-contact jersey: None

Returned: None

Here are some quick observations.

-- After the team ran through a few special teams plays, everyone gathered in the corner of one of the end zones where a staffer had wet the grass with a hose for several minutes ahead of time. Rookies (and first-year coaches) then dove for loose balls, while Tom Brady sprayed the hose on them. The coaches, including Jerod Mayo and Troy Brown, seemed to get the biggest applause. Bill Belichick has done things like this in the past and is a way to keep things loose and get a break from competition on the field and players battling for roster spots.

Brown coached the rest of the session bare foot.

-- It was a very light practice with not much going on. The team walked through a lot of plays to get ready for this week in Tennessee.

-- After participating in live contact drills for the first time this summer Monday, Isaiah Wynn rotated with Dan Skipper at left tackle with the first team. It would not be a shock to see Wynn on the field Saturday night.

-- Defensive end Shilique Calhoun continued to see time with the first team.

-- New tight end Eric Saubert made his Patriots debut and looked decent making a few catches, including a touchdown grab from Tom Brady. He did have a late drop, though.

-- Other players to drop passes were Ryan Davis and Andrew Beck.

-- Tight end Stephen Anderson was limited.

-- Following the practice, the team gathered in a circle and sung Happy Birthday to the McCourty twins.
