Heading into Patriots training camp, one of the biggest competitions on the team appeared to be at punter with Ryan Allen battling undrafted rookie Corey Bojorquez, who displayed a powerful leg during OTAs and minicamp.

But, through two preseason games only Allen has punted and even in practices the veteran has received the majority of the reps, including holding on field goals.

On a conference call Friday morning, Bill Belichick was asked about the two and why Bojorquez hasn't appeared in a game yet, and the coach seemed to indicate the rookie hasn't done enough to earn playing time.

"The opportunities to play have to be earned," he said. "When we feel that that's been done and he's able to do it, or anybody else for that matter – when a player earns an opportunity and is able to participate for the opportunity then we'll try to give it to him."

Based on that, he Bojorquez hasn't done anything to take away game reps from Allen. It is worth noting Bojorquez worked out on the practice field prior to the game with other players who didn't see any time, so it was a plan going in he wouldn't play.

But, until he's off the roster completely, Belichick stressed there's always competition.

"All of the players that are on the roster are in competition," he said. "When they're not in competition is when they're off the roster. As long as they're on the roster there is competition."
