FOXBORO -- The Patriots held their first post-bye practice Tuesday on the upper grass fields behind Gillette Stadium in rainy, cold conditions.

There were two players missing: tight end Dwayne Allen and running back Rex Burkhead.

Allen isn't a surprise as he reportedly is on crutches following being injured against the Titans and is expected to miss a few games. Burkhead is a bit of a surprise as he's the second player the Patriots have designated to return off of injured reserve this season and he has participated in all practices since Nov. 8.

Burkhead can return for the Vikings game on Dec. 2. The running back was in the locker room Monday.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Burkhead told reporters in the locker room he was in fact at practice. He was just a little late.

There is no injury report since it's only Tuesday.

The Patriots will practice Wednesday, get Thursday off for Thanksgiving, and return Friday before traveling to take on the Jets Sunday afternoon.
