Rob Gronkowski is officially off the Patriots' books.

According to the NFL transaction wire, the Patriots placed him on the league’s reserve/retired list Tuesday. This means his $11.86 million comes off the cap and he no longer counts towards the 90-man roster.

Gronkowski announced his retirement on Instagram Sunday night.

If he were to unretire and come back next season, his contract would stay the same at a prorated rate where he has a $500,000 bonus per game.

The 29-year-old will go down as one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game.
