DETROIT -- On Sunday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Patriots were close to trading Rob Gronkowski to the Lions, but the tight end threatened to retire, saying he didn't want to play for anyone besides Tom Brady.

Speaking after the 26-10 loss to the Lions Sunday night, Gronkowski was asked about the report.

In the past, he and other Patriots players have dodged these types of questions or just issued no comments, but not this time.

"Yeah, it happened," Gronkowski said. "Brady's my quarterback. That's all. Wasn't going anywhere without Brady."

It's not a surprise that the report was true, it's surprising Gronkowski confirmed it.

The ramifications of what this means for the franchise long-term will likely continue to be a major topic of discussion not only in the coming days, but weeks to come.
