FOXBORO -- Apparently the national anthem protests have now impacted Roger Goodell's contract extension.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the finalization of his new deal has been slowed because of the anthem protests, which have affected TV ratings and merchandise sales.

The contract could have been done last week at the NFL owners meetings, but the NFL's compensation committee spent about only 20 minutes Wednesday discussing it because of other matters at hand.

The committee says Goodell's deal will be completed, but there is other business that currently is more important.
