MIAMI -- It was a bit of a surprise to see Rob Gronkowski on the field for the final play of the game with the Patriots leading by five and the ball on the Miami 31-yard line with only seven seconds left.

Usually, Gronkowski is on the field for a Hail Mary situation, but Ryan Tannehill is not Patrick Mahomes and cannot throw the ball 70-plus yards. Gronkowski replaced Devin McCourty and that may have made a difference in the play being stopped or going for a touchdown.

According to Tannehill, when he saw Gronkowski was in the game that was when he had a good feeling.

"I was kind of trailing along," he said. "[The] play kind of got messed up. Kenny [Stills] was able to … I saw Kenyan [Drake] there. I’m like, ‘Pitch it, pitch it.’ He pitches it, KD came back inside – I kind of had a great view of the whole thing – came back inside, then I saw him and Gronk about 10 yards away and I was like, ‘Gronk is on the field. We got this.' It was pretty amazing. I was following behind and I kind of just turned around and collapsed just with the emotion of the whole thing."

After Tannehill's completion to Stills and several laterals, it was Drake and Gronkowski alone near the end zone and it was no contest. After Gronkowski slipped, Drake scored to give the Dolphins a thrilling 34-33 win.

"I mean honestly, I’m sitting before you all and I still don’t believe it," Drake said. "I just saw it was Gronk in front of me and I was just like ‘Look, I’ve got somewhere to be.’ So I had to get in the end zone.”

Drake added: “The funny thing is it’s a walkthrough. We don’t practice it a ton. They make bets [between] themselves and say, 'Oh somebody might go the wrong way. Somebody might not get the pitch.' The fact that [Adam Gase] called it in this critical situation and put the trust in his players to go out there and make the play, I’m just glad we all took care of our business and we ended up on the right side of that victory. ”

With the win, Miami is 7-6 and still in the mix for a wild card spot.
