Patriots rookie running back Sony Michel hasn't been seen since leaving practice early on Wednesday, and it may be awhile until we see him again.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Michel has a knee injury, which will require him to have a procedure that is expected to keep him out of the preseason and perhaps into the regular season. It's unclear exactly how Michel suffered the injury, but it was during a half-line drill on Wednesday.

There are other reports saying Michel will likely not miss regular season time, but regardless it's not a good sign for the rookie to miss any time.

Michel, who was the Patriots' second first-round pick, was expected, and still could, play a major role in the offense this season. He has the ability to run the ball as well as catch passes out of the backfield.

If he is forced to miss regular-season time it likely means Jeremy Hill and/or Mike Gillislee are guaranteed roster spots.
