James White is one of the most underrated players across the league, but not to Tom Brady.

The Patriots quarterback has consistently praised him over the years and it occurred again following his performance Sunday against the Bears.

Running back Sony Michel was lost for the game due to a knee injury in the first quarter, which meant White, who is primarily a third-down back, needed to fill in as the lead back. White finished the game with 11 carries for 40 yards, while also adding eight catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

“I know I talk about James White a lot, but you just couldn’t ask for a better player, a better teammate," Brady said Monday on Kirk & Callahan. "Someone who is as dependable and consistent as he has been for as long as he’s been here. It has just been an incredible thing for me to watch.”

Added Brady: “It’s hard to remember [a dropped pass]. He has incredible hands, his run after catch. Then, with Sony going down yesterday, he assumed just he normal tailback position on first and second down. He was in there on the four-minute offense running the clock out and making great runs and great decisions. It’s an incredible job he has done and he is doing. He’s really invaluable to our team.”

The Patriots quarterback noted ideally White wouldn't be getting so many carries, but he needs to right now given the current state of the position.

“That role has really been ingrained for him, but we are in a situation where I don’t think there’s much choice," he said. "We have had so many running backs get injured. It’s been really unfortunate at that position because we had so many guys at training camp and just the attrition of the season really set in. We’re really low on running backs right now.”

Additionally, Brady also noted how teams have played very conservatively so far this season against the Patriots offense, and he credited the offensive line for giving him the time he needed to find the open receivers in Sunday's win.

“I thought the line played so great yesterday," he said. "Their ability to keep the pocket clean allowed me to really see downfield and try to pick out the open guys. That is what we needed. A lot of teams have taken I would say very conservative approaches to defending us this year. They are putting a lot of guys in coverage, not blitzing much at all, not playing much man coverage at all.”

Brady and the Patriots will get an extra day to prepare this week as they will travel to Buffalo for Monday Night Football next week.
