FOXBORO -- Maybe there's a reason why Tom Brady didn't see his usual reps in practice this past week.

According to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, Brady didn't play in Thursday's preseason opener because he's dealing with a sore back. Dating back to the end of last week, Brady has had virtual off-days at practice taking very few snaps in 11-on-11 work.

There have been no signs of him dealing with any injury besides the lack of reps, as he's been on the field the entire timeand hasn't received any extra attention from the training staff.

He's now missed the first preseason game in four out of the last five years.

Bill Belichick was asked what into Brady not playing and he didn't have much to say.

"Some players played, some didn't," Belichick said. "We tried to play people we wanted to take a look at and give some reps to."

Brady and the Patriots will host the Eagles next week in the second preseason game.
