FOXBORO — At Gillette Stadium for a sponsored pregame tailgate before Patriots-Texans, former Patriots and Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork responded to Donald Trump’s comments from Friday where the president attacked players who protest during the national anthem.

“You know what, it’s like — he’s a leader of this country and to talk to citizens the way he did, no matter what is going on, to talk to us like that is unacceptable,” Wilfork told reporters. “Hands down. I don’t give a damn who he is. It’s unacceptable. That’s how I feel about it. I am retired now, but at the same time football is a brotherhood. Sports is a brotherhood. When you are in the locker room, it’s a brotherhood. To be called what he called us, that was a slap in the face to a lot of people. I just think it’s unacceptable.”
