What were Patriots doing on final few plays vs. Steelers?

PITTSBURGH -- The Patriots still had a chance.

Following Chris Boswell's 48-yard field goal with 2:30 left to make it a 17-10 game, the Patriots still had time to go down the field and score, even without any timeouts. Tom Brady actually led the offensive down to the Steelers' 16-yard line with 44 seconds left, but then things went down hill.

After a 5-yard completion to James White, Shaq Mason committed a holding penalty with 37 seconds left to set up second-and-15 from the 21-yard line and that was when it seemed the Patriots didn't know what to do.

The next three plays were all incompletions and it seemed like all the routes were run to the end zone with no attempt to take basically free yardage to make for an easier throw to the end zone on the next play or two. The Steelers gave White plenty of space and he easily could have gone out of bounds after making a catch.

Even the fourth-down play was particularly confusing as all four routes were straight verticals to the end zone and Josh Gordon was taken out of the game with no real reason given afterwards from Bill Belichick.
