Your new favorite prospect Olivier Galipeau defected from Habs to sign with Bruins hours later

It’s not usually smart to make bold assertions on the second day of development camp, but the Bruins should probably sign living legend Olivier Galipeau to a lifelong contract.

Forget clearing cap space for John Tavares. Galipeau was set to attend Canadiens camp Thursday, defected, and showed up to Warrior Ice Arena for day two of Bruins camp instead. TVA Sports’ Mikael Lalancette first reported it in French.

Confirmed details on the contract haven’t surfaced yet, but several reports indicate it’s a one-year, AHL deal.

Oh, and he’s actually pretty good at hockey.

The 21-year-old left-shot led all QMJHL defensemen in scoring with 25 goals and 49 assists in 67 games last season, split between the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and Acadie-Bathurst Titan. (Take that with a grain of salt -- the QMJHL is notoriously high-scoring.)

Along with his presence in the slot, apparently this slap pass is his specialty:

He took 271 (!) shots last season. Power moves only.
