Bruins goalie Anton Khudobin gets start vs. Hurricanes

Over 15 inches of snow postponed Thursday’s head-to-head between the Bruins and visiting Panthers. But it didn’t change Bruins head Bruce Cassidy’s plans in net.

That’s why it’ll be backup Anton Khudobin, not the surging and December’s No. 1 Star Tuukka Rask, in net for his scheduled start tonight against the Hurricanes.

"Obviously, we thought [Rask would] play Thursday," Cassidy said of his original goaltending plans, which always included a back-to-back that begins tonight in Boston. "Tuesday [against the Islanders], Thursday [against the Panthers], Sunday [against the Penguins] was the original plan. Thursday got wiped, so we're just gonna stick with it."

The 31-year-old Khudobin stopped 31-of-34 shots in his last outing, a 4-3 shootout loss to the Capitals on Dec. 28, and enters play with wins in eight of his 13 decisions and a .923 save percentage on the year. However, this will be just his fourth appearance in the last calendar month, as the Bruins have done their best to ride Rask’s hot streak.

Khudobin, who was a Hurricane for two seasons before being traded to the Ducks, has a 2-0-1 record and .936 save percentage against Carolina since that trade.

This is the first of three meetings between the B’s and ex-Whalers this season.
