With Tuukka Rask (undisclosed) out, Anton Khudobin starts vs. Canucks

Knocked out of Wednesday’s practice after a collision with Anders Bjork, and absent from an optional skate at Warrior Ice Arena this morning, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy has confirmed that Tuukka Rask will miss tonight’s game against the Canucks.

“Tuukka’s out tonight. He’ll get re-evaluated and we’ll have a better idea tomorrow,” Cassidy said. “He won’t play tonight. Anton [Khudobin] will start.”

Taken off the ice with a ‘woozy’ sort of step to him yesterday, the Bruins would not directly say what appears to be bothering Rask, and while a concussion or concussion-like symptoms would be the easiest estimation to make from the incident, the Bruins need to see how the 30-year-old goalie reacts this afternoon before making an official call.

“I don’t know,” Cassidy said if this was a matter of still trying to figure out exactly what is ailing Rask. “The doctors will look at him sometime this afternoon, so we should have an update later today. If not, tomorrow morning we’ll have a better idea.”

But Rask’s loss is Khudobin’s gain, even if for just one night.

“You don’t want to see [Rask get hurt],” Khudobin, who will be backed up by emergency recall Zane McIntyre, said after today’s skate. “But at the same time, we keep moving forward, and hopefully he’s gonna get better soon, but I’m excited to get playing.”

The 31-year-old Khudobin had a tremendous training camp and has rolled that into a strong start in the regular season, with a 1-0-0 record behind a 29-save victory against the Coyotes last Saturday, and stops on all but two of 40 shots faced this season.

Khudobin is 2-0-0 with one shutout and a .956 save percentage in two career head-to-heads against the Canucks, including a 29-of-32 winning effort last year.
