The Bruins are among nine teams interested in the services of Russian star winger Ilya Kovalchuk, per TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The Bruins, along with the Sharks, Kings, and Rangers, are four solid contenders for the 35-year-old free agent. The Red Wings, Blues, Ducks, Stars, and Islanders are considered dark horses in the sweepstakes.

Kovalchuk’s last stint in the NHL was with the Devils during the 2012-13 season. The winger collected 10 goals and 21 assists in 37 games to tally 31 points on the year. Kovalchuk left his 15-year contract with the Devils and has since played for the KHL’s St. Petersburg SKA on a four-year contract. Kovalchuk has scored more than 30 goals in his last two seasons, and helped Russia to an Olympic gold medal in Pyeongchang.

Free agency begins on July 1.
