Thursday Red Sox Farm Report: 2017 1st-round pick Tanner Houck throws 6 shutout innings

Here’s what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Wednesday.

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (45-48): L, 3-0 at Charlotte

-- Pawtucket out-hit Charlotte 8-4, but could not plate any runs to support Drew Pomeranz. The 29-year-old lefty was tagged with the loss, going six innings and giving up only one run, a solo home run in the sixth with two outs. Pomeranz also struck out five while walking two.

-- Tony Renda finished the game 2-for-4. The second baseman has gone 15-for-31 since being promoted from Double-A. Ivan De Jesus Jr. completed his second straight multi-hit game going 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to five.

DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (38-57): W, 2-1 at Binghamton

-- Jantzen Witte went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Jhon Nunez collected an RBI single while Josh Ockimey tripled home a run. Ockimey leads the team in extra-base hits with 29.

-- Mike Shawaryn picked up his fifth win of the year (5-7) by throwing six innings of one-run ball and striking out six. Travis Lakins earned his first save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth and lowering his season ERA to 2.57. The righty has struck out 39 batters through 35 total innings of work.

HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (46-48): L, 1-0 at Buies Creek

-- Chris Madera helped Salem stave off being no-hit through 10 innings and finished 1-for-3.  The 25-year-old has a .231 average in 79 games with High-A this season.

-- Tanner Houck, MLB.com’s No. 3 Red Sox prospect, gave up five hits and no runs through six innings while striking out seven, but ended up with a no-decision. Houck is currently 4-11 and holds a 4.80 ERA while having struck out 77 batters in 90 innings pitched.

-- Jake Cosart was charged with the loss, walking two, and allowing the 10th inning walk-off hit.

SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (40-55): Scheduled day-off

SHORT-SEASON, SINGLE-A LOWELL SPINNERS (18-14): W, 3-1, W, 3-2 vs. Aberdeen 

-- Devlin Granberg hit a solo home run and had two RBIs in Game 1.

-- Jarren Duran recorded a 1-for-3 afternoon, finishing with a triple. The 21-year-old followed up with a 1-for-4 evening while tallying an RBI.

-- Eduard Bazardo pitched a complete game in Game 1 and struck out nine, dropping his season ERA to 2.08 (eighth in the New York-Penn League) in seven starts.

-- Victor Garcia earned the win in Game 2, striking out three in two innings of relief.
