Thursday Red Sox Farm Report: Tzu-Wei Lin, Rusney Castillo continue to surge

Here is what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Wednesday.

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (26-30): W, 8-1 vs. Louisville

-- Tzu-Wei Lin and Rusney Castillo each went 2-for-4 in the win. Lin doubled in a run and crossed the plate once, while Castillo also finished with a run scored. Lin upped his average to .272 with the PawSox and Castillo brought his slashing numbers to .315/.338/.425. The 30-year-old Cuban’s .315 average is a current best on the team.

-- Aneury Tavarez and Dan Butler each homered. Tavarez clubbed a solo shot, his fourth of the season in the third inning while Butler smacked a three-run dinger in the second, bringing his home run total to three.

-- William Cuevas tossed 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. The 27-year-old out of Venezuela allowed one earned run on three hits while walking three and striking out four. Cuevas now has a 3.39 ERA in 11 starts and 61 innings pitched. His five punch-outs bring his season strikeout total to 49.

DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (21-36): W, 5-1 vs Bowie

-- Kyle Hart went seven innings to earn the victory to improve to 4-3 on the year. The 25-year-old surrendered only one run on five hits, lowering his ERA to 2.81.

-- Josh Ockimey went 2-for-3 in four plate appearances and scored two runs for the Sea Dogs. The 25-year-old also connected for a double and a homer. Ockimey now holds a .274 average with eight home runs and 28 RBIs.

-- Luke Tendler doubled twice to go 2-for-2 in the game. Tendler also finished with three RBIs, jumping his total to 28.

HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (27-28): W, 9-4 at Winston-Salem

-- Salem ran away with Wednesday’s contest thanks to a four-run third inning. Santiago Espinal began the offensive onslaught in the first with a lead-off double. He tallied a career-high three RBIs on the day and finished 3-for-5. The Red Sox' 2016 10th-round pick now leads all batters with 150-plus at bats on the team in average with a .315 total on 58 hits.

-- Bobby Dalbec hit a two out, two-run homer in the first inning, his 13th homer of the year. The 22-year-old leads the team in both home runs and RBIs. Second baseman Brett Netzer also collected two hits and went 2-for-4 in the win.

-- Starter Jake Thompson evened his record to 3-3 by picking up a six-inning victory. The righty out of Oregon State gave up two runs and walked two, but sat down five batters on strikeout and limited Winston-Salem to five hits.

SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (18-39): W, 2-0 at Augusta

-- The Drive used a two-run inning to hold off the Green Jackets and round out a perfect 5-0 day for the Red Sox organization. Lorenzo Cedrola (2-for-4) and Michael Osinski (1-for-4) batted in the deciding RBIs for Greenville.

-- Jhonathan Diaz went seven strong frames and pitched a shutout game. The lefty gave up only two hits and struck out six.

-- Marcos Lantigua earned his second save of the season by adding two spotless innings of work.
