Tuesday Red Sox Farm Report: Rusney Castillo homers in PawSox extra inning loss

Here’s what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Monday.

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (48-57): L, 11-10 (13 innings) at Syracuse

-- The PawSox took the lead twice in extra innings, but could not close out Syracuse and lost in 13 innings. Outfielder Cole Sturgeon was brought in to pitch and given the loss after Trevor Kelley and Fernando Rodriguez Jr. each blew a save.

-- Starter Justin Haley went 5 2/3 innings and struck out five while surrendering three runs on seven hits and two walks. The 27-year-old has a 3.66 ERA through 17 starts (86 innings) with Pawtucket and has struck out 76 batters.

-- Brandon Phillips finished 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs to raise his batting average to .229. Sturgeon also picked up two RBIs on two hits, while Rusney Castillo hit a two-run home run in the second. Castillo is hitting .321 with five home runs and 48 RBIs in 92 games this year.

-- Sam Travis, Ivan De Jesus Jr., and Mike Miller all doubled on the night. De Jesus is fifth on the team in doubles with 13.

DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (43-62): Scheduled day-off

HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (50-55): Scheduled day-off

SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (46-60): L, 6-5 (10 innings) vs. Asheville

-- The Drive couldn’t complete an extra-inning comeback and lost in 10 to Asheville. Zach Sterry went 2-for-4 with an RBI to raise his average to .293. Marino Campana also picked up two hits and scored two runs.

-- Ryan Fitzgerald finished 2-for-5 with a home run. The 24-year-old is hitting .297 in with eight home runs in 48 games with Greenville this year. Jordan Wren raised his average to .235 and his hit streak to three on a 3-for-5 night.

-- The Tourists were able to tag starter Denyi Reyes for a few runs to jump the 21-year-old’s ERA to 1.89. Reyes gave up three earned runs on five hits and struck out three.

-- Durin O’Linger pitched two scoreless inning in relief before turning the ball over to Juan Florentino. Florentino was charged with the loss to drop his record to 5-3 after towing two innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits.

SHORT-SEASON, SINGLE-A LOWELL SPINNERS (21-22): L, 4-2 at Hudson Valley

-- Jarren Duran went 2-for-4 to raise his season average to .350. He raised his hit steak to 12 with the performance and is batting .349 in his last 10 games. The seventh round pick last month has only five hitless games in 35 total appearances with Lowell.

-- Xavier LeGrant also recorded a 2-for-4 evening. The 27th round pick last year extended his hit streak to four.
