Wednesday Red Sox Farm Report: Tim Roberson HR lifts Portland; Yoan Moncada homers, collects 3 hits in Greenville loss

A look at the action in the Red Sox farm system on Tuesday: TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (48-77): L, 6-2, vs. Syracuse (Nationals) -- Starting right-hander Shawn Haviland suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks in a six-inning effort. He also recorded six strikeouts. Haviland fell to 4-8 on the season and now has a 4.42 ERA. -- Right-hander Dayan Diaz relieved Haviland and pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Diaz is 2-1 with two saves and a 2.04 ERA in 24 relief appearances for Pawtucket this season. -- Righty Noe Ramirez tossed a scoreless ninth inning, giving up just one walk. Ramirez is 4-1 with one save and a 2.61 ERA after appearing in 26 games. -- Third baseman Carlos Rivero drove in both Pawtucket runs -- one in the first inning and one in the third -- and finished the day 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Rivero has played in nine games for Pawtucket since he came over from Triple-A Tacoma and is hitting .300 with one double, one home run and six RBIs. DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (45-77): W, 2-1, at Altoona (Pirates) -- Designated hitter Tim Roberson provided the Sea Dogs with all the offense they needed, hitting a two-run home run to left in the top of the seventh inning. The home run was the fourth of the year for Roberson, who finished Tuesday'€™s game 1-for-4 and is hitting .317 with 28 RBIs through 42 games. -- Three members of the Portland lineup posted two-hit games. Center fielder Manuel Margot went 2-for-4 with a double, second baseman Carlos Asuaje went 2-for-4, and catcher Luis Martinez went 2-for-3. -- Right-hander Aaron Wilkerson earned the win in a seven-inning effort, yielding just one earned run on four hits. He walked none and struck out four. Wilkerson has made three starts for the Sea Dogs and is 1-1 with a 5.09 ERA. -- Kyle Kaminska made his first appearance of the year in a Portland uniform and pitched the final two innings to record the save. The right-hander appeared in 11 games for Salem this season and went 1-2 with two saves. HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (55-65): L, 3-2, at Carolina (Braves) -- Left-hander Daniel McGrath took the loss after giving up all three Carolina runs on five hits over six innings. McGrath walked none for the second time this season and recorded three strikeouts. The 21-year-old has started 17 games for Salem this season and has a 1-6 record with a 4.05 ERA. -- Righty German Taveras tossed two scoreless innings of relief with just one walk. Taveras has appeared in 26 games for Salem out of the bullpen and is 4-3 with two saves and a 5.37 ERA. -- Third baseman Deiner Lopez notched the only multi-hit game for the Red Sox, finishing the day 2-for-4 with a run scored. The switch-hitting 21-year-old is batting .293 with four doubles and eight RBIs through 24 games in a Salem uniform. -- Second baseman Wendell Rijo and right fielder Cole Sturgeon drove in Salem'€™s runs, both finishing the game 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Catcher Jordan Procyshen went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Designated hitter Kevin Heller went 1-for-3 with a walk, and center fielder Forrestt Allday went 1-for-4. SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (61-60): L, 5-1, at Greensboro (Marlins) -- Second baseman Yoan Moncada led the Greenville offense and accounted for the Drive'€™s only run with a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning. Moncada finished the day 3-for-4 with a double. The 20-year-old Cuban switch hitter now is batting .289 on the season with seven home runs, two triples and 17 doubles. He has driven in 32 runs. -- Luis Ramos suffered the loss, giving up all five Greensboro runs. The 20-year-old southpaw allowed five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work. Ramos has made four starts for Greenville this season and is 1-3 with an 8.20 ERA. -- Left-hander Michael Gunn relieved Ramos in the sixth inning and pitched the final 2 2/3, giving up no runs, one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Gunn has made 20 relief appearances in a Greenville uniform this season and is 0-3 with one save and a 6.08 ERA. SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A LOWELL SPINNERS (30-26): Scheduled off day (All-Star break).
