Bruins prospect Senyshyn talks development, scouting report on The Skate Podcast

Zach Senyshyn has carried with him some high expectations ever since the Bruins used the 15th pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to select him after Jakub Zboril at 13 and Jake DeBrusk at 15.

Although he played two games in the NHL at the end of the regular season in 2018-19, he has spent the first two seasons of his pro career with Providence in the AHL and remaining patient with his development.

On this week’s The Skate Podcast, co-hosts Ken Laird and Matt Kalman spoke to the 22-year-old about how he’s hanging in there even as players drafted behind him have become stars in the NHL and fans in Boston are getting antsy for him to produce at the sport’s highest level.

“You know I think it’s just kind of focusing on the progress, not perfection,” Senyshyn said. “And I think I was a very raw talent when I was first picked and I’ve taken a lot of time in the AHL to really round out my whole game and be able to use my strengths in every shift, not just on the rush or not just on offense but being able to really round out my game and use my speed to my advantage and my size to my advantage.

“It’s been a long road and definitely itching to be out there and to be wearing that spoked B and to be able to help them to win. But I definitely feel like I’ve always gotten gradually better every single year.”

Senyshyn also spoke about spending most of the offseason training in Boston, building endurance, and he went over his own scouting report. Plus he talked about how those two NHL games at the end of last season, including his first NHL goal, have motivated him to get more NHL experience.

“Definitely it’s been a dream come true. Getting to play your first NHL game and score your first NHL goal, those are huge moments that I definitely cherish a lot. But I’m just kind of trying to use it to light a little bit of a fire under me for this upcoming season,” he said.

Laird and Kalman also spoke about Tuukka Rask’s appearance on the Jimmy Fund radio-telethon and the Bruins’ reportedly bringing Alex Petrovic to camp on a PTO.
