Don't count on Sam Darnold playing against the Patriots

Don't count on seeing Sam Darnold under center for the Jets Sunday against the Patriots.

New York's rookie quarterback did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, making him unlikely to play in the Week 12 showdown at the Meadowlands Sunday.

Darnold hasn't played since straining his right foot against Miami on Nov. 4, with Josh McCown sliding into the starting spot. Darnold was in uniform the previous two days but didn't throw any passes or participate in team drills.

"I feel really good," Darnold told reporters Monday. "I'm just following protocol right now. It feels really good. I've been walking around on it fine. So, it's just stable progressions throughout the week."

The USC product has thrown for 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while compiling a 68.3 passer rating.

The Jets have lost four in a row, with McCown going 17-for-34 for just 134 yards while throwing two interceptions in his team's loss to the Bills last week. The backup has lost all three of his career starts against the Patriots, totaling a 65.4 passer rating.

UPDATE: The Jets officially ruled Darnold out on Friday.
