How to watch, stream Sunday night's Patriots-Chiefs game

October 14, 2018 - 2:00 pm

The Patriots will face what could be their toughest challenge all season when they host the 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night. The game could go a long way toward determining home-field advantage in the AFC, as the Chiefs would open up a three-game lead over New England with a win.

Kansas City has averaged 35 points per game (second in the NFL) and is led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who leads the NFL in touchdown passes (14) in his first year as a starter (and second year in the NFL). He has already found nine different receivers with touchdown passes, but wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce are his two favorite targets, as both rank just outside the top 10 in the NFL in receiving yards.

The game could easily turn into a shootout, and the Patriots offense should be up to the task. Tom Brady and company have put up 38 points in each of their last two games (wins over the Dolphins and Colts), and the Chiefs are 19th in the NFL in points allowed per game (25.8).  Brady is tied for third in the NFL with 12 touchdown passes, but is also uncharacteristically tied for fifth in interceptions with six.

A big part of the offense's jump in recent weeks is simply that it's a much more complete unit now. Rob Gronkowski and James White have been there and been reliable all season, but Julian Edelman returned to the lineup last week, Josh Gordon continues to get more involved each week, and rookie Sony Michel is starting to look like a true lead back with 210 yards rushing over the last two games.
