The 2019 Boston Marathon men's race gave us one of the closest finishes in the event's 123-year history, as Lawrence Cherono of Kenya barely edged out two-time winner Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia in an exciting sprint to the finish to capture his first Boston Marathon victory.

There was also a first-time winner in the women's race, as Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia pulled away from the pack early on and never looked back as she dominated en route to victory.

In the men's wheelchair race, Daniel Romanchuk became the first American to win since Jim Knaub in 1993. On the women's side, Manuela Schar of Switzerland won for the second time in three years.
