Mike Giardi on D&K gives insight into Patriots' plans without Tom Brady

A lot of the talk this week has been about Tom Brady potentially leaving the Patriots, but nothing really when it comes to how they will replace him.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Appearing on Dale & Keefe Friday, NFL Media's Mike Giardi said he predicts Brady will sign with another team as a free agent, and then was asked what he thinks the Patriots will do in terms of replacing him.

“I think Plan B is to sign someone like Marcus Mariota or maybe Case Keenum to a one-year deal and give them the opportunity to make it an open competition with Jarrett Stidham in the spring and into the summer," he said. "And also, if Stidham is not quite ready yet and this guy has started plenty of games, he can be the caretaker. Then maybe we know by Week 7 or 8 if Stidham is in fact ready to ascend and take the role see if maybe he is (the) quarterback of the future. Otherwise, this is what you do, you make it through the season, Stidham can’t make that leap and then you’re in the quarterback market again next year.”

It does make a ton of sense for the Patriots to sign a veteran QB who isn't going to demand a ton of money since if Brady leaves, the Patriots will be left with $13.5 million in dead cap money.
