Over the next few weeks, WEEI.com will take a look at a number of free agents who the Patriots could potentially target. Free agency officially begins March 13. Here's a link to previous capsules.

Name: Adam Humphries

Age: 25

Position: Wide Receiver

2018 stats: 76 receptions, 816 yards, five touchdowns.

The skinny: The Buccaneers might have found a diamond in the rough with their acquisition of Humphries in 2015. An undrafted free agent by way of Clemson, Humphries was quick to get an invite to attend the Buccaneers’ rookie minicamp. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact. In his second season with Tampa Bay, Humphries elevated his game in a variety of different aspects. He increased his targets from a mere 40 to 83, while also gathering 620 yards as a sophomore.

As his career has progressed, Humphries has gradually improved, leading to his best statistical season in 2018 with 816 yards receiving. The shifty receiver also can return punts. It’s safe to say he should have an immediate impact on any team he joins in 2019.

Why he's a fit for Patriots: The Patriots have always been made up of often-overlooked players with grit and an unrelenting desire to compete. Humphries may not have been selected in the 2015 draft, but his desire to be a part of an organization made him a key cog for the Buccaneers in 2018. The former Clemson Tiger is a gritty, quick, and hard-nosed player that often fights for extra yards. His mental fortitude would fit in perfectly with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

The only thing that might keep him from being a part of the Patriots is that he is due for somewhat of a payday after his serviceable performance in 2018. But should Humphries seek an increased role in a short-term deal, the Patriots might rise to the top of his wish list as a potential landing spot.
