Red Sox part ways with assistant hitting coach Andy Barkett

The Red Sox have made their first coaching staff change, and it's a bit of a surprise. The team has parted ways with assistant hitting coach Andy Barkett, a source has confirmed to's Rob Bradford. The move was first reported by Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

Barkett was hired in Nov. 2017 to work with hitting coach Tim Hyers. The Red Sox led all of baseball in runs and OPS in 2018 and finished in the top five in both categories this year.

Hyers is expected to remain as hitting coach.
