Rich Keefe reacts to Kyrie Irving wanting NBA players to skip Orlando: I thought it was a joke

Over the weekend, it was reported Kyrie Irving doesn't support NBA players going to Orlando to finish the season because he feels it will draw attention away from the Black Lives Matter movement in the country.

On Dale & Keefe Monday, Rich Keefe reacted and said at first he thought it was a joke.

“For Kyrie, I thought it was a joke at first," he said. "I thought it was somebody — because it’s Twitter — being like … remember when I read The Onion article about Kyrie being like they should play on another realm? Then a couple of days after The Onion article, Kyrie (says) this will distract from this movement that is going on in the United States and we shouldn’t play and take the attention away from it is insane.”

Keefe believes Irving and the rest of the players would be able to continue the dialogue with all the attention the league will get once it restarts.

“As far as pregame, postgame and during the game with some of the shirts players have worn in the past, or stuff they have written on their shoes that they can zoom in on," he said. "I think if you didn’t come back and play, sure you could be active in the protests and things like that, which a lot of players have been. but so many more people are going to see it if you play.”

The NBA is scheduled to return July 31.
