Who's swinging the lumber? Mookie Betts hits 30th home run in big night vs. Yankees

September 21, 2018 - 11:14 am

Mookie Betts has been in a bit of a mini-slump, and hadn't hit a home run since Aug. 30, but that all changed Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.

Thanks in part to a conversation he had with manager Alex Cora, Betts exploded with a 4-for-5 night that included five RBIs and three runs scored as the Red Sox rolled to an 11-6 win over the Yankees and clinched their third straight American League East title.

In the top of the eighth, Betts launched his 30th home run of the season, a three-run shot, into the left field bleachers, giving the Sox some important insurance and setting the celebration wheels in motion.
