Who's swinging the lumber? J.D. Martinez hits home run No. 41, moves back into tie for league lead

September 14, 2018 - 11:50 am

Would Fenway Park's vast right field hurt J.D. Martinez and his opposite-field power?

Nope. We got another reminder of that in the second inning Thursday night, when the Red Sox slugger took a Sam Gaviglio breaking ball down-and-away and drove it into the right-field bullpen for his 41st home run of the season, moving him back into a tie for the league lead with Oakland's Khris Davis.

As far as the Triple Crown watch goes, Martinez continues to comfortably lead all of baseball in RBIs (122) and he is 10 points behind teammate Mookie Betts in batting average (.340 to .330).
