Who's swinging the lumber? J.D. Martinez bashes 39th home run, moves back into tie for MLB lead

August 31, 2018 - 10:31 am

When you're J.D. Martinez, going nine games without a home run qualifies as something of a drought, even though he was still getting on base plenty over the last week and a half.

No worries. The Red Sox slugger ended his mini power shortage in the ninth inning Thursday night when he blasted a two-run shot to the opposite field to give Boston some insurance in its 9-4 win over the White Sox.

The homer was Martinez's 39th of the season, moving him back into a tie for the MLB lead with Oakland's Khris Davis. Martinez now once again leads two of the three Triple Crown categories, as teammate Mookie Betts has nudged back ahead of him in batting average, .342 to .336.
